RYAN REYNOLDS CLAIM DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE ALMOST HAD A DIFFERENT NAME: ‘HATED THAT TITLE’

After years of wait and fan speculations, Deadpool & Wolverine has finally hit the screens and the film’s title perfectly fits, as it brings together the beloved X-Men ‘frenemies.’ However, the title was almost different than what fans see now. Just hours before Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman were set to drop the first teaser during the Super Bowl, the original title was leaked online. Surprisingly, the initial name didn’t even mention Jackman’s character, instead the movie was called, “Deadpool & Friend.” During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Reynolds shared the backstory and said it was highly criticised by people who came across the leaked version. Reynolds shared that he literally forced Marvel and Disney to rethink after seeing the negative feedback, and the studio agreed to change at the last moment.

The Free Guy star explained, “I’ve never told this story anywhere but the movie was originally called Deadpool and Friend. I am actually not joking and on the eve of the Super Bowl, where we first launched the trailer to Deadpool and not friend but Wolverine, it leaked, because the son of a b***h is on the internet. The title leaked and we looked at it and listened and they hated that title and we were not feeling so good about that anymore.”

“So Sean Levy and I had been sitting in the edit room for months at this point and we called everybody at Disney and Marvel, said ‘We have to change the title,’ and they were like, ‘No guys, it launches tomorrow. We’ve shipped 9,000 7 foot standees to theatres all over the place that say Deadpool and Friend.’ We just wouldn’t take no for an answer. We’re like, ‘No no, we changing the title. I will never call this movie Deadpool and Friend,’ and they did it, they literally changed the title,” Ryan Reynolds added.

In the same interview, Hugh Jackman shared how it felt to return as Wolverine after saying goodbye to the character in Logan. He admitted that it was “terrifying” at first. When he first announced his retirement, he felt proud of Logan and thought it was the perfect end. However, just days after announcing his retirement, he watched the first Deadpool movie and realized he might have made a big mistake. The Greatest Showman star said that even though he was nervous about returning, he ended up having the best time ever playing Wolverine again.

Now that Deadpool & Wolverine is finally released, fans are excited to see some old and unexpected actors returning to play beloved roles. Other than Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movie stars, Emma Corrin, Matthew Macfadyen, Morena Baccarin, Leslie Uggams, Karan Soni, Stefan Kapicic, Aaron Stanford, Brianna Hildebrand, Tyler Mane, Rob Delaney, Lewis Tan, Jason Flemyng, Kelly Hu and Ray Park.
