DEADPOOL AND WOLVERINE BOX OFFICE COLLECTION DAY 1: RYAN REYNOLDS AND HUGH JACKMAN DELIVER SIXTH-BIGGEST HOLLYWOOD OPENING IN INDIA

Deadpool and Wolverine box office collection day 1: The Ryan Reynolds-Hugh Jackman-starrer Deadpool and Wolverine has opened to massive numbers at the India box office. According to early estimates by industry tracker Sacnilk, the superhero film has earned over Rs 20 crore in India on its first day of release. This makes Deadpool and Wolverine the biggest Hollywood opener of the year. Earlier this year, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, opened at Rs 12.6 crore India nett.

According to Sacnilk, the film earned a total of Rs 21.5 crore on day one, out of which Rs 11.7 crore came from the English-language version, Rs 7.5 crore from Hindi, Rs 1.2 crore in Telugu, and Rs 1.1 crore in Tamil. Night shows contributed to the majority of the earnings, and delivered an occupancy of 48.73%.

The film has successfully placed itself in the top six of all-time biggest Hollywood openings in India, after Avengers: Endgame (Rs 53.10 crore), Avatar: The Way of Water (Rs 40 crore), Spiderman: No Way Home (Rs 32.67 crore), Avengers: Infinity War (Rs 31.30 crore), and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (Rs 28.35 crore).

Meanwhile, except Hrithik Roshan-starrer Fighter (Rs 22.5 crore), Deadpool and Wolverine has surpassed the opening day collection of the top five biggest Bollywood openings this year including Shaitaan (Rs 14.75 crore), Crew (Rs 9.25 crore), Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya (Rs 6.7 crore), and Munjya (Rs 4 crore).

Region wise, the majority of the occupancy was seen in Chennai (72.25%), followed by Kochi (51.75%), Hyderabad (35.75%), Bengaluru (35.25%), Ahmedabad (30.50%), and Pune (29.75 %). The least occupancy was witnessed in Mumbai (26%). The film had an overall occupancy of about 69.11% in the English language on Friday with a theatre occupancy of about 82.09% at night.

In the Hindi language, Deadpool & Wolverine witnessed an overall occupancy of 24.44%, followed by 23.95% in Telugu, and 50.45% in the Tamil language.

The solid opening of Deadpool and Wolverine has set the film for a bigger weekend with no competition in sight. Nag Ashwin's multi-starrer sci-fi drama Kalki 2898 AD is now a month old, while Vicky Kaushal and Triptii Dimri-starrer Bad Newz, which had a good start last week, might get affected by the Hollywood biggie.

Earlier this year, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire entered the Rs 100 crore club in India after opening at Rs 13.25 crore in March. Deadpool and Wolverine is likely to cross the Rs 70 crore mark in the first weekend and will maintain a good run until big films such as Stree 2 and Khel Khel Mein are released in theatres on the Independence Day weekend.
