Damarius Nalik Galarza, a high school football player from Pennsylvania, has tragically died at just 18 years old. The senior at Cedar Crest High School in Lebanon, Pennsylvania, passed away in his sleep on Saturday, January 10, 2026, after what officials described as a “medical event.”
The Cornwall-Lebanon School District confirmed his death in a public statement released on Monday, January 12. His school, colleagues, and the neighborhood where Damarius was recognized for not only his athleticism but also his kind and cheerful presence have all been shocked by the sudden death.
In its statement, the school district shared its grief and support for the family. “Cornwall-Lebanon School District is saddened today by the news that one of our students in 12th grade, Damarius Nalik Galarza, passed away Saturday night as a result of a medical event,” the statement said.
“On behalf of our entire school district community, we extend our deepest sympathy to Damarius’ family and friends during this very difficult time.”
Damarius was an active student at Cedar Crest High School. He played for the football team and also competed in track and field. Friends say he was always full of energy and loved being around his teammates.
Teachers and students gathered quietly on campus after the news broke. Many wore school colors and shared photos and memories online, remembering Damarius as someone who brought life into every room.
After his death, Damarius’ mother, Michelle Franco, created a GoFundMe page to help cover funeral costs and support the family.
“His laugh was contagious and he could make anyone smile, no matter what kind of day they were having,” she wrote. “He played football, ran track, and loved fishing, skateboarding, rollerblading, and riding his bike.”
She shared that Damarius had just received his driver’s license days before he passed away and had been working at Wendy’s since he was 15, proud to earn his own money.
“He was 6’4 and his presence filled every room with warmth and joy,” Franco added. “He had a special bond with his niece and loved playing the piano for her. He was also a huge Philadelphia Eagles fan.”
Michelle Franco also revealed that her son planned to attend the Pennsylvania College of Technology in the fall, where he wanted to study construction management.
“My son was always willing to help anyone,” she wrote. “We want to honor his memory and give him the farewell he deserves.”
