TELANGANA BANDH TODAY (OCT 18): SCHOOLS AND COLLEGES TO REMAIN CLOSED
Telangana will observe a state-wide bandh today, October 18, 2025, as the Backward Classes (BC) groups are demanding 42% reservation in local bodies. The strike will disrupt traffic flow and the daily lives of people.
Keeping the situation in mind, the authorities have announced the closure of all schools and colleges (both government and private) today. In case of any confusion or query, students or their parents can get in touch with the school administration.
The state-wide protests are called upon by the BC Joint Action Committee (BC JAC) under MP R. Krishnaiah against the Telangana High Court’s stay (interim order), which has halted the government’s plan to offer 42% reservation to BCs in local body elections.
As per PTI reports, Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka on Friday assured that the state government is committed to ensuring 42 per cent reservation for Backward Classes, and the issue will be discussed in the October 23 Cabinet meeting after getting the Supreme Court's judgment copy.
The Supreme Court on Thursday dismissed the Telangana government's plea challenging a High Court judgment that stayed a government order offering 42 per cent reservation to Backward Classes in local bodies.
"The Congress Party and Government have a sincere and committed intention to ensure 42 per cent reservations for BCs. Once the Supreme Court's judgment copy is received, the issue will be discussed, and a decision will be taken in the Cabinet meeting on October 23," Vikramarka said in a press release.

Meanwhile, educational institutions in Telangana will likely remain closed on October 20, 2025, for Diwali. In addition, some institutions and companies may grant a day off on October 18 (Saturday) for Dhana Trayodashi. With October 19 being Sunday, students and employees can enjoy a three-day festive break.
Moreover, Telangana students may also get an additional holiday on October 21, 2025. An official confirmation on the same is yet to arrive.
