RAHUL GANDHI DISSENTS AGAINST PM, AMIT SHAH ON SELECTION OF CENTRAL PANEL CHIEFS

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday submitted a formal note of dissent during a high-level meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah to finalise the appointments to key transparency bodies, including the Central Information Commission (CIC) and the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC).

According to officials present, the meeting lasted one hour and 25 minutes. During the deliberations, Gandhi disagreed with the names proposed by the government for the top posts and handed over a written dissent note.

Gandhi, who is part of the selection panels by virtue of being the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, has frequently raised concerns over what he describes as the government's attempts to influence independent institutions. Wednesday's meeting saw him reiterate those objections through his dissent submission.

Further details on the shortlisted candidates or the nature of the objections were not immediately disclosed.
