SMARTPHONES TO GET EXPENSIVE AS SAMSUNG, XIAOMI, OPPO, VIVO AND OTHERS INCREASE PRICES IN INDIA

People who skipped buying or upgrading their smartphones during the festive season will now have to pay more. All major smartphone brands including Samsung, Oppo, Vivo, Realme and Xiaomi have increased prices across their popular models.

According to a report by Moneycontrol, prices of existing smartphones have gone up by up to Rs 2,000, while upcoming premium models could cost Rs 6,000 or more. The report further said that the latest round of price hikes has come soon after the festive sales mainly due to the rising cost of memory components, supply chain challenges and the weakening of the Indian rupee against the US dollar.

Supplies of mobile memory chips used in mid- and entry-level smartphones are said to be tightening as global manufacturers shift focus toward high-bandwidth memory (HBM) components used in AI hardware.

As per the report, Oppo, Vivo, Samsung, and Xiaomi have already raised prices of popular smartphones, while OnePlus, Motorola and Realme are expected to follow within the week.

Oppo has hiked prices of its F31 (8GB/128GB and 8GB/256GB) variants by Rs 1,000 and the Reno 14 and Reno 14 Pro by Rs 2,000 across all versions. These changes came into effect from November 2.

In a communication to its retail partners, Oppo reportedly said that prices of chips and memory components have been steadily increasing since August 2025 and that shortages are expected to continue well into 2026. To ensure uninterrupted delivery and safeguard business interests, the Chinese brand has revised prices for select models effective November 4.

Vivo, another leading player, has raised the prices of its T4 Lite and T4x models by around Rs 500 per variant. Meanwhile, Samsung, India’s second-largest smartphone brand, has increased the price of its Galaxy A17 by Rs 500 and removed the in-box charger worth Rs 1,000, effectively making the device costlier by Rs 1,500, according to retailer information shared with Moneycontrol.

Premium Phones To Get Costlier

The report also revealed that Xiaomi, which had earlier offered small discounts on its 14C and A5 models has now discontinued those offers. The company is preparing to launch its new Note series next month and the upcoming phones are expected to carry higher launch prices. Moneycontrol sources also suggested that prices of premium upcoming phones -- including Oppo’s Find X9, Xiaomi’s 17 series and Vivo’s X300 series will be revised upwards.

Retailers Caution About Slower Sales

Retailers also stressed that that these price increases could hurt November and December sales which are already slower months after the Diwali rush. "This will have a substantial negative impact on November sales, which is already a slow month. The sales numbers will go down in November and December," the retailer was quoted as saying.
