Apple is expected to introduce the iPhone 18 lineup later this year, and leaks have already started revealing details about the company’s next-generation smartphones. While the premium Pro models are expected to receive the biggest upgrades, reports suggest that the standard iPhone 18 could also arrive with changes in design, display, battery life, and camera performance.
According to recent leaks, Apple may continue with a familiar design language for the iPhone 18 series. The base iPhone 18 is expected to retain a flat-edge frame along with a dual rear camera setup. However, reports suggest that the camera bump on the standard variant could become smaller compared to the previous generation. Apple is also rumoured to be working on a slimmer and more refined body design for the device.
Display and Dynamic Island changes
The iPhone 18 could feature the same display size as the current generation, but Apple may introduce improvements in brightness and efficiency. Some reports indicate that the company is planning to reduce the size of the Dynamic Island on future iPhones. Multiple leaks claim that Apple may move some Face ID components under the display, helping reduce the visible cutout area.
There are also reports suggesting that the Dynamic Island on upcoming iPhones may become nearly 35 percent narrower compared to existing models. While the feature is unlikely to disappear completely, Apple appears to be preparing gradual changes toward a cleaner display design.
Camera upgrades expected
Apple is also expected to improve the camera hardware on the iPhone 18 series. Reports suggest that the company may upgrade the front-facing camera to a 24-megapixel sensor for improved selfies and video calls.
For the rear cameras, Apple may introduce improvements in low-light photography and image processing. While the advanced variable aperture technology is expected mainly for Pro models, the standard iPhone 18 could still benefit from better image quality and improved computational photography features.
Bigger battery and new processor
Battery life may become one of the biggest upgrades in the upcoming iPhone lineup. Leaks suggest Apple is focusing more on battery capacity after positive feedback for the iPhone 17 Pro series. Reports claim that some iPhone 18 models could feature batteries exceeding 5,000mAh.
The iPhone 18 is also expected to run on Apple’s next-generation A20 chip. The processor may use a new packaging technology designed to improve efficiency and performance. Apple could also introduce its next-generation C2 modem for improved wireless connectivity and better 5G support.
Expected launch timeline
Apple traditionally launches new iPhones in September, but reports suggest the company could split the iPhone 18 lineup launch. The premium Pro models may arrive first, while the more affordable iPhone 18 could launch later in early 2027.
