David McDonald is president of the internationally known food and meat processing company the OSI Group. He has been with the company since 1987 when he completed his degree in animal science at Iowa State University. The Iowa native fit right in with the company. McDonald grew up in Northeast Iowa on a farm, so he has been involved with meat processing for most of his life. An excellent student, David McDonald was given the Wallace E. Barron Outstanding Senior Award at Iowa State. He has remained very closely connected to the school.
After being hired by the Aurora, Illinois based OSI Group, he remained committed to helping his alma mater. McDonald is involved in Iowa State’s Agricultural Entrepreneurship Initiative. He has also worked with the OSI Group to set up an internship program at the school. In 2011, McDonald arranged for a group of ISU students to visit the OSI Group’s facilities in China. Students from that group have since been hired by the company. McDonald also helps fund scholarships to the school through Alpha Gamma Rho, his college fraternity. Two of his children attend ISU.
Since being hired at the OSI Group, McDonald has proven himself to be a valuable addition to the company. Over the 30 years he has been employed there, he has gone from an entry level position to become chief operating officer and president of the company. McDonald has worked diligently to help the company with its environmental sustainability and expansion efforts. Since taking a leadership position, he has been instrumental in helping the OSI Group acquire Flagship Europe and Baho Foods as part of their plan to expand the company’s presence in Europe. In addition to his work with the OSI Group, David McDonald is also the American Meat Institute board chairman.
McDonald lives in Warrenville, Illinois with his wife and six children. A very caring individual, he is deeply involved in St. Michael Parish located in Wheaton, Illinois and gives generously of his time and resources to the programs taking place there. David McDonald positively impacts every organization with which he works.
